Eclectic Ellapu Pink Team Challenge - Outside of Your Comfort Zone

DT member Becca chose the April challenge to create something outside of your comfort zone!

Mixed Media using masks and stencils is very much outside of my comfort zone!

For my project, I started with a 5x7 canvas and used distress inks and water to paint the base.  The birds on a branch mask was used at the top and bottom of the canvas and sponged using walnut stain distress ink.  The fern is a stencil and I used distress ink to color.  I used a wheat stamp over the ferns.  Sprayed some green Dylusions to give some splotches and stamped a sentiment from a MFP stamp set.

We hope you'll try something out of your comfort zone and share it with us at Eclectic Ellapu Challenge.  You can find the challenge HERE.

Altered Eclectics April Challenge

The Altered Eclectics April Challenge is Anything Goes as long as it is Mixed Media, Altered, Repurposed, or Recycled art!  No tags, no ATCs, no scrap pages, no cards.

My project is totally out of my comfort zone!  It is a mixed media canvas.  This art form is something I really enjoy seeing but doing is something I need lots more practice!

I started with a 5x7 canvas board and used Brusho and water to cover the board, and some glimmer mist red spray to add some sprinkles and blobs!  I used a Tim Holtz stencil for the rays.  I created a denim flower from an old pair of blue jeans, added it to the canvas, drew a stem using a sharpie, added some MayArts fabric leaves, and a die cut butterfly.  The sentiment is from the MFP stamp set Nature's Brushstrokes.

We hope you'll share your altered art with us.  You can find the challenge HERE.

MFP Stamp Shop Blog Challenge - Birthdays and Butterflies

This week's challenge at MFP Stamp Shop Blog is to create a birthday card and to also use a butterfly or butterflies on it!

For my card I used butterflies from the MFP Stamp Shop Bearded Iris and Butterfly Sayings stamp sets to create the multi-colored background.  I used a swiss dots embossing folder to give the background some texture.  The sentiment is from the MFP Background Fun set.  I embellished my card by creating a multi-looped bow and added a button bling in the center.

We hope you'll play along with this week's birthdays and butterflies challenge.  You can find the challenge HERE.

The Sisterhood of Crafters Challenge - Come Fly With Me!

Come Fly With Me! is the challenge over at The Sisterhood of Crafters!  I LOVE butterflies!

For my card, I used a couple of techniques, first being the watercolor panel.  I used a background stamp inked with versamark and stamped it lightly onto the watercolor paper.  I sprinkled it with WOW! Clear Matt Dull embossing powder and heat embossed.  The powder doesn't give a raised, glossy effect, but rather a more subtle texture look.  I then wet my paper and did a watercolor wash using Koi Watercolors.  The embossed area popped out through the wash.  The second technique used is the inlaid die cut.  I used a butterfly die to cut out an area on the watercolored panel; I adhered the panel with the cutout onto a panel of marina mist cardstock.  I then cut the butterfly out again from a piece of designer paper and laid it into the cutout.  This gives a smooth diecut finish.  I embellished my card using a crocheted flower stem from iamroses.com.  The sentiment is from the MFP Stamp Shop Friends stamp set.

The Sisterhood of Crafters Challenge can be found HERE.

Oriental Sketch Challenge 71

This week's Oriental Sketch Challenge at MFP SpeedyTV uses this sketch:

The stamped background of my card was quite by accident!  Have you ever inked the wrong side of your stamp?!  Yep, that's what I did; I used several different colors of Hero Arts Shadow inks intended for the images of the MFP Butterfly Essence stamp; but, I placed the stamp face down on my acrylic block and inked the smooth side of the stamp and only realized my mistake when I didn't see the butterfly images on the panel!  So not wanting to waste the inked panel I then put the stamp right side up and inked the image using Hero Arts Wet Cement ink and stamped it on top of the colorful mistake.  The stamps I used for my card are MFP Stamp Shop Butterfly Essence and MFP Stamp Shop Asian Delights for the sentiments.

We hope you'll play along with the MFP Oriental Sketch Challenge this week.  You can find the challenge HERE.

MFP Stamp Shop Blog Challenge - Who Let the Dogs Out?!

A fun challenge this week at MFP Stamp Shop Blog with the theme "Who Let The Dogs Out?!"

For my card, I used the MFP Stamp Shop Fabulous Pets stamp set.  I stamped the dog image onto Crumb Cake card stock and highlighted the image with Memento Rich Cocoa ink.  I then fussy cut the image.  The House die is a Marianne Design Craftables Victorian House die, MS fence border punch and MS grass punch.  The sentiment was stamped and then punched it out using the Fiskars cloud punch.

We hope you'll play along with the MFP Stamp Shop Challenge this week and share your dog cards with us!  You can find the challenge HERE.

Oriental Sketch Challenge 70

This week's MFP Oriental Sketch Challenge uses this sketch:

For my card, I decided to get away from the traditional Oriental papers and colors and go with shades of Pink!  However, I did use Oriental waterlily image and sentiment from the MFP Stamp Shop Koi Fish stamp set.  I fussy cut the image and used 3 layers of the lily to give it dimension.  I had some watercolor scraps that I stamped the sentiment on and used a circle punch to cut it out and mount onto a slightly larger punched circle from the same scrap.  I used an Martha Stewart border punch on the right side of the card base and then placed pink cardstock under it.

We hope you'll play along with our sketch challenge this week.  You'll find the challenge HERE.

Ruby's Rainbow Challenge - Buttons and Bows

The Ruby's Rainbow Challenge theme was chosen by Silvi to make a creation using buttons and bows!

My project is a gift bag.  I used the CheeryLynn Large Sunflower Doily Die and a Marianne Creatables tag die.  Other embellishments include gingham ribbon that I created into a multi-loop bow and put a fancy button in the center.  Under the bow is a floral spray from Recollections.  The burlap and silk flower in the center of the doily is Jolee's EKSuccess.  The wooden flourish is from my stash.  The Happy Birthday sentiment is from the MFP Stamp Shop Birds of the Orient stamp set.

We hope you'll play along with Silvi's challenge at Ruby's Rainbow!  You can find the challenge HERE.

One Layer Christmas Card Challenge - Circles!

The OLCC Challenges are always Christmas anything goes with an optional twist!  The twist for challenge #6 is Circles!

The circle challenge was the perfect opportunity to create using the Bokeh technique!  I used Arches Aquarelle Hot Press 140 lb Watercolor paper for my card base.  I masked off the fold so I wouldn't get watercolors running down the back.  I wet the card front and used a wet brush loaded with red and then green Aquarelle Sennelier watercolors to add the color to the card base.  The circles were created using my homemade circle stencil and Sampin' Up White Pigment ink.  The sentiment is Penny Black A Wonderful Christmas stamp.

We hope you'll share your one layer Christmas card with us at the OLCCC.  You ca find the challenge HERE.

Oriental Sketch Challenge 69

This week's MFP SpeedyTV Oriental Sketch Challenge #69 uses this sketch:

For my card, I used the MFP Stamp Shop Wealthy Fish stamp set and Works of Art stamp set.

I used waterbased markers direct to the images and then stamped onto the cardstock.  This technique gives a different look when done with line art images, such as those I used.  The bamboo stamp was inked this way also and stamped several times to create the background as well as the Asian word characters stamp from Works of Art stamped over the bamboo.

We hope you'll use the sketch to share your Oriental card with us this week.  If you do not have any Oriental style stamps, please feel free to use the sketch with any floral or animal stamp and enter your card HERE.

The Sisterhood of Crafters Color Inspiration Challenge

I just recently found The Sisterhood of Crafters challenge site.  For the current challenge we are to use the following colors as inspiration for our project:

Isn't this color palette gorgeous?!

For my card, I sponged distress inks onto the smooth side of Ranger Watercolor paper.  I'm really enjoying the Bokeh technique so went with sponging white circles over the inked background, letting the white craft ink dry and then stamped the Stampabilities Waving Wheat image with green ink in the corner.  I embellished using Martha Stewart orange daisies from my stash and popping some enamel dots into the center of each flower.  MayArts fabric leaves embellish under the flowers.  Martha Stewart Butterfly punches were used to also embellish the card front.  I'm pretty sure I covered each color from the inspiration picture!

This fun challenge can be found HERE.

Altered Eclectics March Challenge

The monthly Altered Eclectics challenges are the perfect way to showcase your altered art, mixed media, recycled, and upcycled projects!

For my altered project, I found a clock on sale at the supermarket where I go for groceries and I knew it had potential!  My husband removed the clock face, battery pack, and glass front for me.  So, then sea shells by the sea shore...my find on my recent vacation to Florida, collecting the shells was super fun and I knew right away those shells were going to fit perfectly into the clock!  A piece of fish net, the shells, some long green leaf stems from a floral branch, some patterned paper for the back of the clock, a feathered flower, some knotted hemp, a metal dragonfly embellishment, along with a spray of gems were used to embellish my clock.

You can enter your altered art in the Altered Eclectics Challenge found HERE.
